The Author Recommends: December

the-author-recommends

December is for feel-good books. At least in my world. So I’ve chosen a few of my Christmas favorites for this post.

51-56ffh-zl-sy344bo1204203200I love all the different versions of A Christmas Carol we get hit with every year for Christmas. Movies, cartoons, musicals, etc. But nothing really beats the original. That’s true for a lot of things, and it certainly is here. The best part is that you can easily read it year after year without getting bored with it.

21692366-_uy200_This is a sweet mail-order bride story. It will warm you up and is perfect enjoyed in any weather. But look at the cover. It’s better at Christmas.

giftSweet, romantic stories from Nora Roberts, perfect for the holidays. And I’m such a big fan of her that I find all of her stories gifts. These just happen to be Christmas gifts.

About The Author

m-a

M.A. Stacie is never without a book or her eReader. A voracious reader, with a love of sexy, yet angst ridden novels, she loves getting lost in new worlds. Her need to write did not grip her until after her second son was born, when her previous rambles became fully fledged stories.

She describes herself as one huge contradiction, and though not the most conventional of hobbies, she counts getting new tattoos as one of hers. Along with running, knitting, and listening to loud music. However, she is yet to work out how to do them all at the same time.

M. A. Stacie lives in the UK with her husband and three sons.

How to REALLY Get to Know Your Character

Portrait of a man hiding his face behind a question mark

Your character?

You’re preparing to write a book, plotting away, creating characters, and writing more notes than you will ever use. There, on one of the pages, is a clear description of your main character. Height, weight, eye color, favorite childhood memory. You have probably thought of it all. Maybe you start writing and hit a wall, maybe you notice something is wrong before that.

The Author Recommends: October

the-author-recommends

No matter the season, I think it’s the perfect time for reading. But there’s just something about fall that makes you want to curl up with a blanket, something hot to drink, and a good book, isn’t there? In any case, here are a few of my suggestions for this month’s reading. What are yours?

51klxsm0kklA dear friend gave me this a few years ago, and I was slightly awed that the book had existed without me knowing about it. If you have an interest in Israel, or in the world in general, this is a book for you.

1373381-e1414188903485If you haven’t read this already, I strongly suggest that you do. Wartime brides cross the seas to start new lives with the soldier husbands they barely know. It’s been a few years since I read it, but I remember devouring it.

tineI’m pretty sure I’ve seen this in a translated version, but I realize it might be difficult, if not impossible, to get a hold of. Herman Bang is one of the greatest Danish authors, and this is a masterpiece. I’ve cried over this book so many times, and it’s definitely not a feel-good romance. But it’s worth every tear.
